Pest Control

The Northern Ireland School of Falconry has been involved for many years now in using birds of prey as means of deterring pigeons, gulls and starlings at land fill sites. These birds also roost on buildings, causing extreme damage and major health risks. The trained hawks, by their presence, deter the pest birds from returning to potential nest sites or roosting areas.

On occasions, there is no other option than to remove pest birds by shooting. This is carried out by a skilled marksman with an air rifle.

Trapping has been a very successful method of removing pigeons from areas where falconry and shooting would not be possible.
